Education Charter International Member Sticker

Economic hardship among teaching staff has produced increased engagement in nonacademic moonlighting activities. Added to these difficulties are such factors as the lack of books and materials, no incentive for research and writing, the use of outdated notes and materials, and the deficiency of replacement laboratory equipment. One researcher noted that in the 1980s Nigeria had the lowest number of indigenous engineers per capita of any Third World country.

"In a global economy where the most valuable skill you can sell is your knowledge, a good education is no longer just a pathway to opportunity - it is a pre-requisite. Right now, three-quarters of the fastest-growing occupations require more than a high school diploma. And yet, just over half of our citizens have that level of education. We have one of the highest high school dropout rates of any industrialised nation. And half of the students who begin college never finish. This is a prescription for economic decline, because we know the countries that out-teach us today will out-compete us tomorrow. That is why it will be the goal of this administration to ensure that every child has access to a complete and competitive education - from the day they are born to the day they begin a career."-

"Education is the most important long-term investment we can make in our future. Education reflects our love and our belief in freedom. It is freedom itself."-

IN ACQUIRING, EDUCATION IS IT!

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” – W.B.Yeats

Education is key to economic growth, civil society and to the advancement of peace. Nations that fail to educate their young are often characterized by stultified growth, conflict and many forms of child exploitation.

It is indispensable for human progress and empowerment, for human beings to be able to survive, to develop to full capabilities, to live and work in dignity, to participate fully in development, to improve the quality of their lives, to make informal decisions, and to continue learning (Obioma, 2006).

In CCLP Worldwide, we recognize and value the strategic role that education plays in galvanizing the human spirit towards excellence and acting as a guiding light, for nations and societies, to establish resilient and sustainable environment for the peace and good governance of their people.

The Education Charter is an ethical framework of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable educated youth of global society, for the 21st century and has the following important inputs;

* A. Quality basic education and promotion of higher education
* B. Re-orienting educational system to accommodate the underprivileged
* C. Opening access and public awareness for better education
* D. Simulation of system with community participation.

I call on all major intermediaries strategic to education; non-governmental organizations, government at all levels, educational institutions and the society at large, to do all within their power, to achieve the ultimate goal of the Education Charter, which is, QUALITY OF LIFE AND BETTER LIVELIHOOD.

As you browse our website, I call on you, to look inwards, within yourself and find the strength to contribute in your own way, in making the education of our youths and the betterment of Nigerian society your priority.
