EDMONTON - A seriously disturbed
convict at the Edmonton Institution pleaded guilty to assault with a
weapon for hurling feces at the warden of the maximum-security prison.
And court Friday heard Curtis Dale Hill, 29, has further
outstanding charges for doing similar feces attacks at the Edmonton
Remand Centre.
Court heard the Halloween assault on warden Ron Boutin happened
about 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2008, while Hill was locked up in the
prison's segregation unit.
Boutin, accompanied by other correctional officers, was doing a
routine visit to the unit to speak to the inmates about any concerns
they had, said Crown prosecutor Lawrence Van Dyke.
When Boutin got to Hill's cell, the inmate called to him in a low voice and the warden leaned in closer to hear him.
Hill then threw a small milk carton filled with fecal matter at the warden through the food tray opening.
The feces didn't make it through the opening and landed on the shelf, but some of it splattered on Boutin.
Hill then reached out, grabbed the carton and threw it at the warden, striking him in the chest area, said Van Dyke.
The fecal matter was sprayed on the warden's chest and ran down
his leg and onto his shoes, causing $500 in damage to his clothing and
footwear, court heard.
Hill then yelled at other inmates in the unit: "I s--t-bombed the warden."
When asked by the other prisoners whether he had really done it, Hill replied: "Yeah, I had a full cup ready for him."
A pre-sentence report and a psychiatric assessment were ordered and Hill is slated to be sentenced on Oct. 2.
He is also facing mischief and assault charges for doing similar attacks at the Edmonton Remand Centre on July 6 and Aug. 12.
In the first attack, Hill allegedly caused damage to some walls
after chasing an inmate with a carton of feces, but missing when he
threw it at him.
The second incident involved him filling a plastic pop bottle
with a mixture of feces and urine and then attaching a tube so that he
could send the disgusting mixture into a cell by placing it under the
door.
