Community Seeks Mimiko's Assistance

The people of Ifedore Local Government in Ondo State, yesterday urged Governor Olusegun Mimiko to develop the area. Speaking at the interactive meeting with the governor, one of the community spokesmen, the Commissioner for Cooperative and Rural Development, Clement Faboyede, said the immediate past administration neglected the area in the provision of infrastructural facilities such as roads, pipe borne water, tertiary institution, health care and upgrading of their monarchs to Grade A Obas. Faboyede, who begged the governor to address these problems, explained: 'our students in higher institutions are agitating for scholarship and other financial aids.

There is no single tertiary institution in the Ifedore comprising of many big towns. Ifedore is begging Mr. Governor to establish one state higher institution here university, college of education or polytechnic'. The Alara of Ilara, Oba Abiodun Ademehinti, who spoke on behalf of the traditional rulers, appealed to the governor to promote the traditional rulers in the area to Grade A status, stressing that they felt sad that none of the Obas in the area has reached the first class status.

Earlier in his speech, the Commissioner for Information, Pastor Ranti Akerele, said the town meeting was a programme put in place to by Mimiko's administration to create platform for the promotion of interactive and consultative relationship between the government and the people at the grassroots to enhance good governance in the state.

According to him, the Ifedore interactive meeting was the third of its kind since the inception of the government adding that the meeting had taken place in Owo and Odigbo Local Councils, meaning that the meeting has been held in each of the three senatorial district of the state.

Responding to the people’ demands, Mimiko expressed gratitude to all of them for coming out in droves to bare their minds on issues bothering them. He promised to look into their agitations. He enjoined the people to cooperate with his government in order to fast track the dividends of democracy.

2011: Return Back, PDP Youths Urge Defected Members

The youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State, Ondo Youth Action Renewal Group, has appealed to defected members of the party to return back. The Group appealed to members of the party who defected to other rival political parties to return as the party is poised to put its house in order.

According to a statement issued by the President of the group, Mr. Adeola Adegoke, he implored all good patriots and former PDP members who defected to other regional political parties to come back to their root, saying that the party remained significant in Ondo State.

It added that it would be impossible for any party to defeat the PDP in the state in the 2011 elections. The youths also advised serving political office holders, who are members of the party, to be ready to accommodate those who would be returning back to the party.

They also said that every member of the party should work together to ensure that the party succeed in its bid to wrest power from the ruling Labour Party. Adegoke, said that the party would continue to be relevant in the state due to the exalted position of the PDP in the country.

LCDAs: CNPP Urges FG to Dialogue with Lagos

The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), South West Zone, has urged federal government of Nigeria to embark on dialogue with Lagos State government over the dispute about the legality of 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos.

In a communiqué signed by the CNPP's zonal officers: Chief Ayo Isijola (Ondo), Mr. Oyeniran S. Oyeniyi (Oyo), Mr. Tunji Ogunlola (Ekiti), Mr. Gabriel Iyiola (Lagos) and the zonal Coordinator/PRO, Mr. Patrick Akindulu after the zonal meeting in Akure, CNPP urged the two parties involved in the controversial issue to allow peace to reign.

According to the press statement, there was the need for both parties to come together to find lasting and amicable solution to their differences in the interest of the downtrodden. While the conference commended Governor Raji Fashola of Lagos State, for the great work of urban renewal and socio-economic development in the state, it also eulogized the leadership role of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the South West.

Expressing gratitude to Ondo State government for its hospitality, the CNPP, advised the federal government to look into bitumen project in the state which can provide huge resources for the nation at large. Concerning the political situation in Ekiti State, it implored the Ekiti State Governorship Petition Tribunal to have the fear God in discharging their duties, adding that Senatorial re run in the state should be conducted in a peaceful atmosphere with dictum of one man, one vote.

The zonal CNPP admonished the two factions of the conference in Osun State chapter to come together for peace and development of the state in general, promising to wade into the crisis in Osun.
